Here comes the sun.

October 30, 2012

I am so happy to see the sun and blue sky in Boston while many in the area are without power, the storm path seems to have missed us. Thinking of all my friends and family in New York and New Jersey.  Stay safe.

Hurricane prep

October 29, 2012

As a Girl Scout I was taught to always be prepared…or was that the Boy Scout motto?  Anyway, I just popped to the store to get some hurricane essentials.  Thank goodness they have the necessities.  Now I am heading home to batten down the hatches.  Stay safe east coasters.

Dog Costumes

October 26, 2012

Is there anything funnier than a dog in a costume…I don’t think so.  The other day we did some Haloween pet and baby photography.  I love my job!  Jessica Sutton’s pup Oscar made for a great Waldo.

Life in Pictures

October 25, 2012

I know I have talked about Instagram before but it is an obsession…basically it makes your life look like an amazing, filter enhanced, editorial.  (Between my Instagram obsession and realizing that most of the photos I take of my daughter are with my iPhone, I am totally getting the iPhone 5.)  It is also another amazing social media vehicle to gain inspiration, and connect with people. But beware, it can also garner some major lifestyle envy.  Just know that Instagram cropping and filters can make everything look better.

I also just found out you can follow people even if you do not have an iPhone.  You can follow me at @sarah_w_studios.

P.S. If I don’t already follow you, post your Instagram handle in the comments.

October 23, 2012

My yesterday was pretty blah, so I pulled some photos to brighten my day.  I took these a few years ago right at Halloween in beautiful Cohasset, MA.  The town is a quintessential, gorgeous New England fishing town and was also the shooting location for The Witches of Eastwick.  Think I am going to have to find and watch that movie this week.

Peace out for today.:)

The kids are all right

October 18, 2012

Late last night, as I was perusing my Pintrest boards, I caught sight of a fabulous photograph of a child. We are not talking the Christmas card family photography with which we are all familiar, but a cool, editorial style fashion image. It lead me to my new obsession…the blog Smudgetikka. The site is penned by Linda McLean, fashion director at Junior Magazine, a UK based publication. She blogs about her job, location scouting and all the great editorials she sees for children’s fashion. (What is it about Europeans and great children’s clothing?!?! No cartoon characters and silly princess crap, just darling, age appropriate clothes.)

This now has my mind churning with ideas for a children’s fashion shoot. I adore working with my fashion clients and would love to bring that look to a children’s shoot.

Here are some editorials pulled from Smudgetikka blog.

I love the magical feel of this woodland themed shoot, by Beatrice Heydiri for Collezioni Magazine.

And the princess in armor of this one by Emma Tunbridg.

And Anders Hald for Petit Nord

I love all of them so much! Now excuse my while I go dress up my daughter in a Celtic warrior suit of arms and go photograph her by the water on a cloudy blustery day.

The Perfect Storm

October 16, 2012

Okay, so I won’t go through my “to do list” for you right now but I am kind of the queen of over extending myself.  Combine a huge photo shoot, 1100+ photos to edit afterwards, a video project and having to prepare for a trip (in which I am pairing work and bébé) and I am spent.  And it is only Tuesday!!!  I promise promise promise with all my creative heart, I will have a plethora of great post (not all fashion related :))  soon.

Sculpture from the DeCorvoda sculpture park.

Now I have to go turn off the debate and pack…or maybe just go to bed.

Feelings of Fall

October 15, 2012

Here are some out takes from a photo shoot I had last week at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum.  If you live in the Boston area get your butt over to this place pronto!  It is magical, even on a rainy day like the day we had.  Now back to editing the actual shoot.

5 Best Things

October 8, 2012

I was pretty pitiful about blog posting last week, but inspired by the uber chic Stacy Kunstul and her series on the 5 Best Things she sees each week, here is a quick recap of the 5 best things I saw last week.  (In no particular order.)

1. Fashion Presentation inspired by the art of of Os Gemeos at The Institute of Contemporary Art

Looks styled by Louis Boston, Riccardi, and Serenella

2. The lanterns outside Trade in Boston

I had dinner at Trade with Cassandra Lavalle of Coco & Kelley and Julieann Covino of Create Girl, and noticed these lanterns as we were leaving. Don’t they look like the lanterns outside the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence!?!?!

Florence (photo from my trip last October)

3. Corporate head shots

Not exactly crazy exciting, but I am thrilled at any new photo job and little niche of business.  Plus I love having new and different people in my studio, from hair, make-up and models to businessmen in suits.  Gotta make them look good for LinkedIn.

4. and 5. Bébé

She gets two places this week.  We had a family fun weekend filled with pumpkin patches and play grounds.

Happy Monday!  Especially to those of you who have it off!

Weekend Update

October 2, 2012

This weekend the hubs and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary with a little staycation at a lovely old Boston hotel.  The in-laws offered to stay over with bébé and we had our first night away together without her!  It was wonderful.  My weekend was also bookended with some Boston fashion week events on Friday and Sunday night.  Here are some iPhone and Instagram pics of the weekend.  More on the actual shows later.

Press pass, and in the photographers pit for the Sam Mendoza show.  So official.

Serious photographers a work! (Taken by my friend in the front row, Liana.)

Upon leaving the Tent at the Mandarin Oriental I almost fell down the stairs when I saw one of my photos used in the Louis ad.

Me being super blasé about the whole thing.

Saturday we checked into the historic old Taj hotel (use to be the old Boston Ritz) for a little in town get away.  We were away from bébé for the first night together, but could practically see our apartment windows from the hotel room.  Haha.  Baby steps.

Beacon Hill on that rainy Saturday morning

Champagne that night in the old hotel bar.

Sunday morning was sleeping in, room service and the paper.  So lovely and quiet.

Sunday evening (after blissful reunion with bébé), I strapped on my heels and headed out for another Boston fashion week show.  This time it was the ethereal Emily Muller.

Seat mate, Soonha Lee and I compare shoes.

Jessica Sutton and I smile for Soonha’s iPhone.

Fashion shows, fancy hotels, champagne and room service…it is a tough life, but somebody has to do it.  Glad that somebody is me!
