Sneak Peek – Samantha House Jewelry’s new line

(Photo shoots galore…I am certainly trying to cram as many in as possible the last couple of weeks.)

Samantha House Jewelry is launching her latest collection Sam and I had the pleasure of photographing it. She sells her gorgeous jewelry at the likes of Barney’s in New York and specialty boutiques like Flock in Boston. The kicker with this new line of jewelry is all items are under $100! With gold and silver options the collection is delicate and airy. I just love it. Plus we got to play with the natural light which beams into my studio each morning. The collection is not yet available but here is a sneak peek from our photo shoot. I’ll keep you posted on its official debut.

I am still swimming in a sea of photo editing, but am able to share some of the shots from my photo shoot for Jill Rosenwald’s Spring line. She is gearing up for the New York International Gift Fair and I just adore her new pieces. With the styling help of Erin Gates I think the photographs came out gorgeously and I love what the graphic designer Lizzy Vaughan did with some of the images.

Lost in Photo Shoot Land

Holy cow! I blinked and it has been over a weeks since I posted an entry. Don’t worry, no baby yet. I am just trying to cram in a million different things before this baby decides to arrive. Photo shoots, meetings, finishing up projects, organizing, you name it I am trying to do it all. But enough about babies and going into labor…

This week I shot some gorgeous spring looks for the luxury clothing store LouisBoston, located on the beautiful Boston waterfront. Despite temperatures dipping into the teens, we had a great time photographing early Spring looks and dreaming of green grass and warm sunshine. Marni, Roland Mouret, Balenciaga, Proenza Schouler, you name it, they have got it. When I wasn’t busy photographing, and trying to stay warm, I was drooling over everything in the store. Here is a little Instragram behind the scene look at our day of shooting.

A day in the studio – what a photo shoot is like

Yesterday, in the studio we shot a fabulous photo shoot for Jill Rosenwald’s spring line. The shoot was styled by the chic and talented Erin Gates Design of Elements of Style and her rock star assistant, Lindsay. I also had the aid of an awesome assistant, Maggie Emerson. Villanova University, where I spent my undergraduate years, held a take a student to work day, and I was paired with Maggie. Maggie will be graduating in May and entering the big bad world, but it is not all bad. Some days you get to create fabulously, fun photo shoots. So, guest blogging here today we have Maggie, talking about her day in the studio with me.

Maggie Emerson-

“As a Villanova University senior with 5 months until the dreaded graduation, I jump at any opportunity to venture into the professional world. I am lucky enough to share my Alma Mater with Sarah Winchester, with whom I was matched up for ‘Nova’s “Take a [wild]’Cat to Work Day,” and so yesterday I came into Boston to help out at the studio, where we did a shoot for Jill Rosenwald styled by Erin Gates. I had an amazing time watching everything get put together, styled, put back together, changed some more and then shot. It was a totally valuable experience which made me actually excited about my future (as a college senior, this is near impossible) and reaffirmed my beliefs that I am on the right path for myself. Of course I Instragramed my way through the whole thing, and here are some scenes from the set.”

Crazy for Accessories

Accessories have become even more important to my fashion sanity as I approach my due date and basically wear the same 4 or 5 things everyday. I am definitely ready to get my body back and have my entire wardrobe in which to choose my looks, but for now, here are some fun and brave accessory combinations that have been catching my eye and inspiring me to shake things up a bit.

A Year in Pictures

I have to say, one of the best things about blogging is the ability to look back at old posts. I spent most of the morning reading though a year’s worth of my blog posts, and I’d like to re-share some of the highlights. While a lot happened in 2011, I am thrilled and excited (if not a bit overwhelmed) at what 2012 has in store. I think it is going to be another amazing year. But before I jump forward…a look back.

Studio Space: In February 2011 I moved in to a studio sharing the space with the fun and talented Erin Gates of Elements of Style. Then in October the studio next door became available and I expanded. Having a space to work and photograph along side other talented designers and artists has been a dream come true. I love going to work there each morning.

Snow snow and more snow: With one massive snow storm after another, pelting New England in 2011, my baptism to life in the north felt complete.

Travel: I am a travel junkie. Once I have one trip complete, I am already planning my next adventure. Between, Italy, Canada, Arizona, Sea Island, California, Las Vegas and numerous visits to Nantucket, Vermont, Maine and Cape Cod, 2011 added many frequent flyer points and miles to the odometer. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Of course our adventure to the Bahamas with the New England Aquarium deserves it’s own call out.

New York Fashion Week: The opportunity to photograph backstage and then sit front row at the Tibi fashion show was a highlight of my personal and professional year to say the least. What can I say, it was a dream come true.

Down time: Of course some of my most cherished memories form 2011 come from time spent with family and friends. I am one lucky lucky girl.

Especially since in a few weeks my family with be plus one.

All is quiet

We had a wonderful relaxing Christmas with family, including Christmas Eve dinner with the in-laws and then Christmas Day up in Maine with my sister. We arrived in Maine just as the snow began to fall giving us a white Christmas. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas filled with family, friends and food.

My Home for the Holidays

With 5 weeks until my due date we are sticking pretty close to Boston for Christmas and New Year. No air travel for me, but my forced grounding has really lead me to appreciate and love my home even more.

Winter Solstice – Scandinavian Style

On this day of the Winter Solstice and shortest day of the year, I am reminded of the strange cold beauty that can be winter. Although we have yet to see real amounts of snow here in Boston (of which I am TOTALLY okay with) the long shadows that start early in the afternoon, bare trees, and lichen colored grass have a bare beauty of their own.

My friend Jessica Sutton totally exudes that white blonde, winter chic, Scandinavian style. Here she is from a quick photo shoot we did yesterday.

P.S. Also thinking of my friend Gabrielle who is back in her home country of Sweden for the first time in 3 years this Christmas. Merry Christmas girl!

Recipe for White Chocolate & Peppermint Bark

I have gotten a few requests for the White Chocolate & Peppermint Bark Recipe from the previous post. It is super easy. I order my chocolates and peppermint from Cake Art in Atlanta http://www.cakeart.com you can order online or call and order via the phone at 770-493-1505 but you can probably buy them lots of places. That is just where my mom always gets them.

Ingredients
• Ck Products – Merkins 1 lb. White Chocolate
• Ck Products – Candy crunch Peppermint Red & Green 1lb

I typically use 5lb of white chocolate per 1 lb of peppermint.

Instructions
• Use a double broiler to melt the chocolate. I don’t have one so use a 2 inch or so deep pan with some water.
• Heat the water to almost a boil. Then place a 2 quart pot in the pan of water.
• Place the white chocolates in the pot (I only heat up about 1 1/2 lb at a time).
• Stir until the white chocolate until smooth and creamy.
• Pull off stove and stir in peppermint
• Pour the chocolate onto a cookie sheet
• Place cookie sheet into freezer for 10 min (line the cookie sheet with wax paper helps)
• Break into pieces and eat or share
