I think everyone needs a little work space of their own, even if it is just a little carved out corner of a room, where you check your e-mail, pay bills, spend hours on Pinterest, whatever. Studio mate, member of team Jill Rosenwald and designer extraordinaire, Lizzy, has the cutest set-up, I just had to share. It is very 20-something, artist chic.

From time to time I do photography consultations for business in order to help them set up in-house product photography studios for online stores. Let’s face it, product photography can be time consuming and boring. While I am happy to do it for clients (I won’t turn down a money paying gig), I love helping them set up their own system. It is more fun to work with a client, and allows them to create a system so they can update products for their online stores at any time.
I have been working with the ladies at Twelve Chairs for a few months now and the other week I went over to see the new studio. I was so impressed with their set-up. They listened to everything I had said and more!
Their online store is almost ready to go, so check back.
And if you live in Boston, pop by the shop. It is located in the same neighborhood as my studio, the Fort Point district, right near the new seaport area.
So much has been built in this area over the 1 1/2 years I have been here I can’t believe it. Best of all the hardware store on the ground floor of our building just turned into a wine and food shop! Thank you little infant baby Jesus for answering my prayers.

Last week, my intern Jacalyn found the most amazing peonies for our photo shoot. (I was Instagraming pictures of them all weekend.) They were perfect bight magenta pink and looked amazing in the photo shoot.
The peonies were pretty closed up when she purchased them at Winston’s Flowers, however, they sure did not stay that small!
With the heat we had last week they began to open almost as she stepped out of the shop. Once we cut them and put them in fresh water, they got bigger by the second.
After the shoot I took them home to enjoy and they just got bigger and bigger.
And they started getting lighter…
By Monday they were completely bleached out!
I had never seen anything like that! A little Google searching by Jacalyn Monday morning revealed that once cut some types of peonies bleach out…It was amazing.

Hot town! My car thermometer read 102˚F yesterday. Yikes. That is hot even by southern standards, and 102˚ feels sooooo much hotter in the concrete and asphalt jungle. We braved the heat and worked on a really fun photo shoot yesterday for a fabulous new clothing line. I loved the urban back drop in contrast to the polish of the clothing. I cannot wait to share it with you.
P.S. The greatest intern in all the land, Jacalyn, sourced some of the most beautiful peonies I have every seen. They look fake they are so perfect. They now adorn my coffee table. Thanks girl.

I am so excited to have our studio featured on The Everygirl, along with an interview. It was quite a change being in front of the camera instead of behind it but Alaina and Danielle from The Everygirl are wonderful. I am so thrilled to final get to share what my studio looks like as well! Here are some teaser photos, but go over to The Everygirl to see the whole feature.

Exciting news here at Sarah Winchester Studios…we have our first every intern!!! With me this summer and guest blogging throughout, is the lovely Jacalyn Reed. Jacalyn is a rising sophomore at my alma mater, Villanova University, and a Communications major. (She has already proven herself to be indispensable these first two weeks.) Jacalyn is a native New Englander with roots in Boston and Newport. She has that great classic, preppy style, but I’ll let her tell you more.
After completing four years at an all girls’ catholic school, I then ventured to Villanova University, which to be honest had a similar feel, (with the addition of boys of course). I have just finished my freshman year; it was a major transition that I fell in love with. Everything about my first year in college was fantastic, from the amazing people I met to the interesting classes I took. Although, uprooting your life is difficult at times, I am now looking forward to a summer of fun at home!
My internship seems to be so fun and interesting so far and I am thrilled about all the wonderful projects that Sarah and I have ahead of us! I am also looking forward spending time in one of my favorite places, Newport, Rhode Island. Newport has always had a special place in my heart because it is where my whole family comes together and shares amazing memories. I have been so fortunate to be able to enjoy my summers in Newport since I was born.
The Newport Bridge
I have worked retail for the past four years in Newport and have been able to develop a good sense of my own style, combining things I like and are considered “in style” with what looks good on me. Throughout the summer, my goal is to share some of my fashion insight. For the summer, I have some “must-have” items, which include, a monogrammed iPhone case, Jack Rogers sandals, a pair of Ray Bans, white jeans, and a neon pedicure!
My Summer Must-Haves:
I am never without a monogrammed iPhone case, its cute and personal all while protecting your phone! Not to mention all the fabulous patterns and color combinations!
Jack Rogers are a basic in my summer wardrobe I can usually match anything to a pair of these adorable sandals! I of course am obsessed with the monogrammed ones!
I honestly wish it were fashionably acceptable to wear white jeans all year long they go with everything! These slight flare leg jeans are so flattering and look great with wedges, heels or flats!
Ray Ban aviators
I love when it is finally appropriate for summer nail colors because that means it is time for the neon’s to come out! I never go without neon Essie color on either my nails or my toes!

I love my studio space so much. On any given day there can be photo shoots, meetings, babies and doggies galore. It is such a fun creative space and believe it or not, we get a ton of work done here. Between the 5 companies that share the floor we have 2 babies, 5 dogs and bunch of fun amazing people. Meet the newest studio mate…Russell. (His owner is a new ceramic artist.) Isn’t he so photogenic?

Yesterday, in the studio we shot a fabulous photo shoot for Jill Rosenwald’s spring line. The shoot was styled by the chic and talented Erin Gates Design of Elements of Style and her rock star assistant, Lindsay. I also had the aid of an awesome assistant, Maggie Emerson. Villanova University, where I spent my undergraduate years, held a take a student to work day, and I was paired with Maggie. Maggie will be graduating in May and entering the big bad world, but it is not all bad. Some days you get to create fabulously, fun photo shoots. So, guest blogging here today we have Maggie, talking about her day in the studio with me.
“As a Villanova University senior with 5 months until the dreaded graduation, I jump at any opportunity to venture into the professional world. I am lucky enough to share my Alma Mater with Sarah Winchester, with whom I was matched up for ‘Nova’s “Take a [wild]’Cat to Work Day,” and so yesterday I came into Boston to help out at the studio, where we did a shoot for Jill Rosenwald styled by Erin Gates. I had an amazing time watching everything get put together, styled, put back together, changed some more and then shot. It was a totally valuable experience which made me actually excited about my future (as a college senior, this is near impossible) and reaffirmed my beliefs that I am on the right path for myself. Of course I Instragramed my way through the whole thing, and here are some scenes from the set.”

Also. check out Maggie’s photos from her semester abroad in Paris, her blog here.. They are wonderful.

A month ago the studio space, one door down from my current spot became available, and while I was sad to see my neighbors go (we miss you New Brahmin and Sam Mendoza) and sad to be moving a whole 15 feet away from my awesome shared studio space with Elements of Style/Erin Gates Design, I could not pass up the opportunity. A whole space to myself, and enough room to properly shoot in studio, it is kind of a dream come true, if not a little terrifying with the added rent, responsibility and growth. But sometimes you have to grow to grow, so I took the leap.
Plus the morning light that streams in is an absolute dream.
More, to come as I settle in. Oh and call me for photo shoots! I am ready, available and motivated by the extra rent!
