Backstage

September 14, 2012

The backstage at the Tibi fashion show was exactly as you might imagine the back stage at a fashion show to be. Crazy, fun, glamorous. PR girls running with head sets strapped to their body, models young enough to be in high school sitting quietly playing on their iPhones as hair stylist, make-up artists and photographers buzz around them and the fashion camera crews filming clips and segways for various, podcasts, blogs, TV stations etc.. Although the backstage space at this season’s Tibi show was enormous, an entire separate floor in a Chelsea warehouse, so the buzz didn’t seem as frantic…well except for the fact there were tornado warnings during pre-show.

Front Row at a Fashion Show

September 12, 2012

Last weekend I packed up my camera gear, kissed bébé goodbye for my first night away and hopped a train to New York. I was a ball of nervous energy, excitement and sheer joy. I absolutely eat up all the Fashion Week hullabaloo with a sterling silver spoon. (P.S. have never used the word hullabaloo before but it is stuck in my head…seems appropriate.)

Anyway, I got to photograph backstage at the Tibi fashion show and then sat front row! As a seat filler of course. I kind of love being this low key, nobody, snapping away among the flurry of models, make-up artist, socialites and self-important fashion reporters. I find it fascinating. And as an unapologetic fan of fashion shows and Tibi clothing in particular, I love seeing what designer Amy Smilovic has in store for next season. Let me tell you, it is black and white, minimal, sleek and very wearable. It’s Céline meets 90′s Calvin Klein, but at a much more feasible price point.

Front of the House

Although my seat was front row, it didn’t really lend itself to a great camera angle of the clothes…those girls walk FAST and my shutter speed could barely keep up with them. For the full show look-by-look go to Style.com. but for some shots from my point of view, see below. Plus my seat mate, the designer’s darling 10 year old son made for some fun conversation. At one point he leans over, looking at the screen on my camera and goes, “its at 2.8 (referring to my aperture setting), that is good.” What?!?!?! You rock kid!

Next: all the back stage action.

So I am heading to New York tomorrow for a quick little taste and some photographing of fashion week. I know I should be all blasé about going to fashion week, but inside I am about as cool as a pre-teen, hopped up on pixie sticks about to meet One Direction. I love this shit! (pardon the French) This will also be the first night I am away from bébé and I am equal parts scared and excited…well lets be honest…I am a little more on the excited side. Arrivederci!

Here are some of my pics from last September’s Fashion Week. I cannot wait to share this season’s with you. Wish me luck! Yeeeeeeee!

P.S. I totally this yellow dress on sample sale at the Tibi Outlet in August!

See you soon New York!

While my new little bundle of joy kept me from going to New York for a little fashion week photog fix, I have had many a late night opportunity to browse the interwebs and scour the street style fashion that graced New York Fashion week.  (Thank goodness for the iPad!)  Overall, I wasn’t blown away by the street style efforts (usually I get loads of inspiration), but I did find some fun elements here and there.

Have loved this Derek Lam coat for months now.  Should have made it mine when it was 70% off at Saks this January but couldn’t really think about it at 9 months pregnant.  Oh well.  Oh and neon bag, yes please!

Denim jacket as a layer…only Jenna Lyons can take this former soccer mom paired with khaki capris and make it fresh.  May have to pull mine out.

Not digging the gorilla arms but love the Canon SLR paired with Chanel.

This Tibi jacket will be mine.  May have to wait until I go to the outlet in St. Simons for Easter, but it will be mine!  Love it paired with pointy toe heals with bows.

Champagne & Cupcakes

January 23, 2012

I am still swimming in a sea of photo editing, but am able to share some of the shots from my photo shoot for Jill Rosenwald’s Spring line.  She is gearing up for the New York International Gift Fair and I just adore her new pieces.  With the styling help of Erin Gates I think the photographs came out gorgeously and I love what the graphic designer Lizzy Vaughan did with some of the images.

Settling in

November 9, 2011

With almost 3 weeks of no travel, I am finally beginning to feel settled into our new apartment and my new studio.  Believe it or not being pregnant has slowed down my travel schedule and has allowed me to accomplish some small lingering tasks.  Don’t get me wrong, I still have a “to do” list about a mile long and that whole pregnancy nesting instinct has hit me hard core, but I am actually enjoying it a bit.

While sorting through and archiving photo shoots, I came upon these New York Fashion Week leftovers.

Backstage at Tibi

September 19, 2011

Models, photographers, hair, make-up, fabulous clothes, lots of people running around frantically…backstage at a fashion show is everything you would expect.  (Except the models ate and I did not see a single mini bottle of Veuve Clicquot.  Oh well, perhaps champagne backstage is a Paris thing, but is makes sense considering most of the models probably weren’t old enough to drink :) )

From the Front Row / Tibi

September 16, 2011

What do Olivia Palermo, Sophia Bush, Emma Roberts and I have in common?  We all sat front row at the Tibi Spring/Summer 2012 fashion show!  Of course the similarities end there.  The major difference was their names were on their seats, where as I happily took the spot of an editor/buyer who could not make it in from Istanbul.  Beggars can’t be choosers and I happily helped the Tibi PR girls fill in the front row. :)

The clothes, the music, the models, the crowd, everything was amazing (the most over used word by me the past few days).  I am spoiled for life.  I cannot thank the amazing Tibi PR girls enough for inviting me and allowing me this opportunity.

I just loved all the 90′s minimalism going on here, beautiful whites, minty greens, bright yellows, and that sleek, deep, side-part pony tail.  It reminded me of the Gwyneth and Brad Pitt days.  I have more than a few things on my spring wish list.

Coming Monday: All the backstage madness that goes into making a fashion show.  Have a great weekend!

I am heading to New York for the Tibi fashion show!  The amazing PR girls at Tibi invited me to photograph all the pre-show backstage madness.  I am jumping out of my skin with excitement!  If you read my blog you know I love me some Tibi and have long frequented their amazing outlet store near my family’s beach house, but to see all the magic in action is just a dream come true.  The blog on their site is fabulous and chalk full of benhind the scenes goodies, inspitation boards and sketches from Tibi founder and designer Amy Smilovic.  Here are some of my favorite recent image, but go check it out yourself.

I promise lots of amazing backstage images soon!  Now…what I am going to wear?

Snowy NCY

March 1, 2010

I spent the weekend snowed in New York taking care of my cousin who just had ACL surgery.  She is such a trooper.  We watched tons of great movies, ate candy, drank wine and watched the snow fall, fall and fall.

As I am arriving and the snow starting to fall.

View from my cousin’s apartment in Midtown. The snow just kept coming!

I took the wonderfully easy LimoLiner from Back Bay Boston to Midtown Manhattan.  They have WiFi, movies, a meal and you arrive at your destination in about 4 hours.  No trains, no port authority, no airport, I highly recommend it as one of the easiest ways to get from Boston to New York.
