For the past year I have been working various different photo shoots and projects for a new design and lifestyle book by Erin Gates of Elements of Style. Two weeks ago we shot her head shot for the book and yesterday the book went on pre-sale on Amazon.com! Knowing that she has impeccable taste I was thrilled and honored when she asked me to help contribute some of my photography skills to her book. I knew she wasn’t just asking me as a friend as she wouldn’t settle for less than perfect for her book. (Over the years I have had the pleasure of working closely with Erin; I shared my first studio space in Boston with her, and have also come to call her a dear friend.) I am also humbled to have my photography credit name next to some of my interior photographer idols and fellow contributors Michael Partenio and Michael J Lee. On top of all that, the book pre-order sales made Elements of style #1 best selling Home Decorating book on Amazon and top 50 on all of Amazon! Crazy. Pre-order yours now so you won’t have to wait come the release date. Looks like there will surely be addition printing needed! Congrats Erin and I am so so thrilled to be a part of this book in even my small way. (Don’t worry, mom, mother-in-law, sister and sister-in-laws…I have already per-ordered some for you.) Pre-order it here.

Unused head shot from our shoot…you will have to get the book to see which photo she choose.
The dogs were not always this cooperative.

Last week I popped over to the new Element Interiors and Elements of Style studio to shoot a few quick head shots of the beautiful and talented Erin Gates. I am sure most of you probably read Erin’s wildly popular blog. It is a daily click of mine, usually first thing in the morning with my coffee. In fact her blog provided me with tons of inspiration for my current Boston digs. (Erin also did a very blush worth post about it on her blog.) Anyway, here are few from the shoot with more to come as her studio evolves.
I loved her inspiration wall and headed straight for it to start the shoot.
Erin is so photogenic, the shoot was a breeze, except for my desire to steal her gorgeous bracelet. Love it!
Her two little Havanese pups were the perfect gentlemen and even posed for a few shots themselves.
I wish all my shoots were this easy.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of doing some head shots for Jessica Sutton of Jessica Sutton Graphic Design (The same talented woman who authors the blog Daucus Carota in which I have previously blogged.) Jessica and I found each other through the wonderful world of the interwebs and I was thrilled when she asked me to do some head shots for her business. We had a great time shooting one Saturday afternoon and her adorable dog Oscar got to join in on the fun as well.
Here are some of the photos she choose from the shoot.
I think we were able to capture Jessica’s creative and artistic personality and I love how she incorporated some of the photos on her “about” page on her website.
Jessica describes her design style as “inspired by simplicity, smart uses of color and elegance.” Her portfolio is vast and very impressive and I was honored to get to work with such a creative, entrepreneurial woman. Here are some of my favorites of her designs.
The Urban Hound – website design
I love the vivid green and orange colors with the clean white background and brown type, and the darling doggies on each page.
They even to house visits for kitties! I am going to have to try them for an upcoming trip we have…maybe they can get Magnolia back into shape a bit. Girlfriend has got some winter hips on her.
Jeannie Vincent Makeup Artistry – logo, website and collateral design
I love that Jeannie’s signature is her logo, and I love the simple white on black thick business card. Jeannie also did Jessica’s make up for our photo shoot.
Makeup Etc. – logo, collateral and store graphics design
She has even had clients as far reaching as Dubai. www.makeupetc.ae (full site coming soon)
