Bonded Pair

February 24, 2012

Some of you blog readers may remember last year my husband and I went with the New England Aquarium on a collecting trip to the Bahamas.  It is wonderful to see many of the fish we collected thriving in their new home and educating visitors.  Steve and I actually collected this exact pair of banded butterfly fish.  A fascinating fact about butterfly fish is they are monogamous, having a single partner or are a “bonded pair.”  When collecting any butterfly fish we had to collect both individuals of the pair and never separate them during the collecting and transportation process.  Other wise the butterfly fish would not thrive in their new home.  The romantic in me loves this idea of a bonded pair.  Especially since I have found the other half of my pair in my wonderful husband.

Here is a video of the pair we collected in their New England Aquarium home.  We nicknamed them, Sarah and Steve (note: this is not their official New England Aquarium name :) )

Some favorite images from our trip…ahhh…dreaming of warm tropical waters..

Hope you all have a happy happy weekend!

Winter Break

February 22, 2012

Much of New England is on winter break this week and it seems New England has gotten a full break from winter this year.  Out my window, onto my sliver of a view of the Boston Public Garden, I can even see the faint whisper of lime green buds.  I know a hard core New Englander would warn my southern spring optimism with a stern…”It is not over yet,” but I cannot help but get excited for the promise of spring.  It is my favorite time of year.

As my hubby strapped on the Baby Bjorn this weekend I grabbed my camera as our whole new little family went for a walk in this mild February weather.

While my new little bundle of joy kept me from going to New York for a little fashion week photog fix, I have had many a late night opportunity to browse the interwebs and scour the street style fashion that graced New York Fashion week.  (Thank goodness for the iPad!)  Overall, I wasn’t blown away by the street style efforts (usually I get loads of inspiration), but I did find some fun elements here and there.

Beautiful winter colors.

Have loved this Derek Lam coat for months now.  Should have made it mine when it was 70% off at Saks this January but couldn’t really think about it at 9 months pregnant.  Oh well.  Oh and neon bag, yes please!

Denim jacket as a layer…only Jenna Lyons can take this former soccer mom paired with khaki capris and make it fresh.  May have to pull mine out.

This Tibi jacket will be mine.  May have to wait until I go to the outlet in St. Simons for Easter, but it will be mine!  Love it paired with pointy toe heals with bows.

Baby Bliss

February 13, 2012

Hello all!  My week long silence can mean only one thing.  Our precious little bundle of joy finally decided to arrive 11 days past her due date.  I literally started pushing as the Super Bowl ended, and as her daddy says, the Patriots have not lost a Super Bowl in her lifetime!

In this world of social media, I am still trying to figure out how much to share about baby, so please bear with me.  I can just imagine her as a 13 year old girl, asking me “Mommy what is a blog, and why did you talk about my poop and spit up?”  Haha.  Rest assured I will do a nursery design reveal and photos of out new(ish) apartment.  I am still waiting on a few key pieces on back order…ahem…West Elm headboard that I ordered in October, I am looking at you.  I am also waiting for the crib skirt in which I am having made to be completed.  The seamstress was so convinced I was having a boy, by the way I was carrying, she refused to make the crib skirt until after I delivered…maybe it was the language barrier, but she would not even start on the pinky/coral fabric until confirmation of girl.  Haha

Here is a swatch of the fabric.  I am not a big pink person, but I think this coral goes great with the safari theme nursery and adds a little feminine accent with out being too girly.  I just love it!

Thank you all.  We are so so happy. XOXO

P.S.  Thank goodness for Fashion Week and the iPad.  They have made those late night feedings much more entertaining. Love it!  Expect a Fashion Week Street Style round-up in the near future.  With my belly slowly going away I am getting so inspired by all the street style looks and SOOOOO excited to dig back into my wardrobe.  Although my boobs are giving Pamela Anderson a slow motion, “Bay Watch,” run on the beach for her money.

Here are some more great Spring styles from the Louis Boston fashion shoot.  I could post them all, I love them so much, but had to edit them a bit.  I am also planning on making some fun animated gifs so stay tuned.  Until then, think spring, think color!

Happy weekend, happy Super Bowl and hopefully happy baby delivery for me.  (At 8 days past due she has got to come soon…right? :) )

The other week I had Spring on the brain hard core as I photographed warmer weather style for the high end clothing store Louis Boston.  We went with a street style approach to the editorial and despite the chilly temperatures and multiple shooting days and locations, the models were total rock stars.  It also didn’t hurt that many of the label we shot make up my dream closet, Marni, Roland Mouret, Balenciaga, Proenza Schouler…
