High Gloss Magazine

January 31, 2011

The time has come!  I am off to New York for the launch party for High Gloss Magazine.  I was thrilled when I was asked to be a contributor for their premier issues.  I’ll show your which photographs are mine once I see the issue.  It is totally under wraps so I see it, just like the rest of the world, when it hits virtual news stands tomorrow.  I cannot wait to see it and hear some feedback.  Now I am off to catch a train to beat out the impending northeast snow storm rushing our way.

Wish me luck!

Busy Bee

January 31, 2011

Sorry I have been a little quite over past few days.  I have been a busy busy bee preparing my new studio and even shooting in it already.  I love love love the space and am seeing it beginning to evolve.  Here are some images I keep looking at to keep me inspired and not overwhelmed.  Granted these spaces are way beyond what my little space is, but I feel like I have my own little bit of studio heaven…

My super husband spent all Sunday with me, braving the aisle of Ikea and helping me put together all of my purchases.  He seriously gets husband of the year for this one, especially considering he had never set foot in an Ikea prior.  I briefed him on the Ikea 411, had a specific list in hand and got there right as the doors opened in hopes of minimizing any Ikea trauma.  Two hours later (30 min of which included us losing each other), we loaded up Lady Liberty (my little Jeep Liberty) with our haul.

Three hours after that we were pooped, but had made some real progress on the studio.  It is beginning to look like a proper space.  Super husband to the rescue!

I had to share this great new jewelry designer CeCe Atelier.  Founder and designer Carolina Campbell (also a dear friend of mine from college) recently traded in her power suit as a Wall Street banker for the entrepreneurial life.  She is kicking it all off with a “stay warm” sale through the end of January.  Her timing couldn’t be more perfect.  With more snow today and another 12 inches predicted for Thursday I am dreaming of sunny skies, and her earrings just scream take me to Mexico!

I purchased these gorgeous bad boys this morning.  I think they would look great on me while lounging on the beach with a pina colada.

Here are some of my other favorites on sale now.

Here is Carolina showing you how it is done.  She is on the right.  How adorable is she?  Wish I was sitting there about now.

Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar

January 24, 2011

Mexican fiesta!

Saturday night my husband and I had a much needed date night.  We decided to check out the new Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar in the back bay of Boston.  I have been complaining since I moved that there are no good Mexican restaurants in Boston, and I have been waiting excitedly since I saw a “coming soon” sign outside their storefront.  The restaurant is also located in the building where my husband has a condo in which we are planning on renovating this May and moving back, so to say I had great hopes for Lolita is a bit of an understatement.  (Lord knows I need weekly doses of queso and tacos.)  Thankfully Lolita did not disappoint.  The food was fabulous, the margaritas delicious, and the service wonderful.  I cannot say enough good things.

Margarita with a splash of grapefruit juice…yummy!

They did a great job creating a fun, sexy atmosphere, without a bit of pretentiousness or too cool for school attitude.  (Note: we did eat at like 6pm and it did get packed by the time we finished, so definitely make reservations if going on a Friday or Saturday.)

Complementary tattoos and cotton candy with pop rocks at the end of the meal!  How fun is that?!?!

Lolita has absolutely made out go to list of restaurants.  I am already dreaming of their pulled pork tacos with salsa verde.

We finally upgraded from the tiny, little love seat in which I brought to Boston, to this big, gorgeous, new, full size sofa!  After 6 – 8 weeks it was delivered today, and just in time.  With more than six new inches of snow on the ground this morning and temperatures predicted to be -5˚F this weekend, I don’t think I will be leaving the comfort of my living room much over the next couple of days.

Brand new with tags still attached.  It is the Oslo sleeper sofa from Boston Interiors, and I love it!  (Not to mention the price was amazing.)

Coming home

January 20, 2011

I am finally home after a week in Las Vegas and 5 days in Orlando and I couldn’t be happier or more drained.  I normally try to not get too mean or bratty on this blog…that is not what it is for, but I have to say it: I hate Las Vegas.  Yes I am sure the fact that I only go there for work and I usually have to be there for a week at a time doesn’t help, but every year it gets to me.  The canned air in the hotels and casinos, the fake pirate ships, castles and cities, the obsession with money and people expecting you to dish out cash for every minor effort when really they are just doing their job, it all just brings me down.  So it is not until these annual January work trips to Las Vegas are complete, I really feel my 2011 can begin.  In an effort to not dwell on the stresses of the past week and to kick off my creative new year, I am done venting…that is all.  Vegas is done and I am home.

Here is an image that makes me feel fresh, inspired and happy.

Many more wonderful posts on the horizon, but tonight; hubby, wine, fire, kitty and bed.  Hurrah!

My Website!

January 17, 2011

Well, almost.  I have a home page and some images, with rest still under construction.  Once I get home from Las Vegas and move into my new studio I am going to get my portfolios and information uploaded.  Check it out in the link below and let me know what think so far?  Would LOVE some feedback.

Studio space!

January 14, 2011

I am beyond excited that as of Feburary 1st, I will be sharing some studio space!  I have loved my little home office, but I am bursting at the seams.  My new space will not only allow for more work space and storage, but even some shooting space!  I can hardly believe it, a photo studio?!?!  I will be sharing with the uber-talented and fabulously cool Erin Gates of Elements of Style and Element Interiors, and so as I am enroute to Las Vegas for another week of trade show fun, I can’t help but mentally decorate my new studio.  (After all, I need to bring my design A-game to hang with Erin :))

The other side of the studio will be set up with my seamless and shooting area.  I promise to post more photos as it progresses.  Now I just have to get through a week in Las Vegas and I can start making this a reality!

Snow Day

January 13, 2011

Yesterday we got 18 inches of snow!  I have lived in Boston 1 1/2 years and due to my travel schedule I have missed every major snow storm.  Not this time, and I was thrilled.  While spent most of my day working from home, I did get a chance to take a little walk outside.

I am off to Las Vegas today for work.  Cheers.

Cisco Brewers

January 11, 2011

I was so  thrilled when I received an email yesterday from Cisco Brewers on Nantucket asking to use one of my photographs for their website.  I had such a wonderful time there in October and I am counting down the days until I can go back to Nantucket.  Their beer*, wine and vodka are delicious.  Definitely pick some up if you see it.

On their home page now

* My husband is the beer tester…this gluten free girl can’t have any, but I adore the labels.
